Did you know that you have to have different skincare routines for every season? It’s like when you have a day and nighttime skincare routine. You wouldn’t put on sunscreen at night or night creams in the day time. This example also works for every season. Different seasons require you to need more hydration than others. Since it’s wintertime, let’s talk about the best winter skincare routine. Here are some tips to keep in mind when making your winter skincare routine.
Gentle Cleanser

A cleanser that leaves your skin feeling tight squeaky clean, you want to switch to a gentler cleanser. Using a gentle hydrating cleanser is good for the winter to avoid stripping the skin of its moisture. I recommend using ones that have some lactic acid, which helps increase hydration and smoothen out the skin. If you have sensitivity and inflammation skin due to the weather, use a cleanser that is oil-based or cream-based; which doesn’t do any stripping.
Vitamin C Serum

Serums generally help deliver collagen. This is why vitamin C serum is one product that you should keep on using all year long. It also helps reduce dryness and wrinkles, keeping the skin moist, and slow down the aging process. It is best to apply this in the morning to prevent skin damage throughout the day.
Daily Moisturizer

A daily moisturizer is never to skip. Especially during the winter, moisturizers protect the skin and give lasting moisture. If you notice you still have dry patches at the end of the day when you used moisturizer, swap for a richer moisturizer. Sometimes the thinner lightweight formula you used in warmer weather doesn’t work in the winter. Look for ones that use fatty acids and ceramides. Help enhance skin hydration and maintain the skin’s protective barrier.
Still need Sunscreen

Even though there is not much sunlight, you still need to wear sunscreen. Winter’s freezing temperature and cruel winds can leave your skin dry. Giving UV rays (responsible for skin age and skin cancer) a perfect shot at your skin. Wearing SPF on exposed skin will keep you protected from rays.
Exfoliate Less

Exfoliating during cold weather helps quicken the skin’s regeneration, allowing better penetration of your moisturizer. However, this doesn’t mean you should do it more often. The skin barrier is going to be a little bit compromised due to the dryness and the cold air. Instead of using physical exfoliants, ones that physically scrub off dead skin cells, use chemical exfoliants. A formula that uses alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or enzymes to gently dissolve the top layer of dead skin and wash it away. If you tend to get quite dry skin, it is best to hold off on exfoliating.
